New Fly Patterns
CLASSIC STREAMERS are flies designed originally to cast with a fly rod but lend themselves well to trolling. One common feature is the length of materials that enable movement to give the impression of life. These Classic Streamers tend to be shorter than most of my other trolling flies. Don’t be fooled, often the food source is small minnows, and the predators will key in on size, rejecting the larger presentations.
In the smaller sizes, sometimes I will trail one behind a larger fly. The theory behind this rigging is the larger fly chased the smaller fly, missed the smaller one and overshot it. The Olive Matuka in 10’s and 12’s along with the Royal Coachman Bucktail #12 fit this scenario.
