
Soft Hackle Trailing Nymphs Box "A"
A dozen “Soft Hackle’ nymphs to pull behind a trolling fly. Two flies in each of 6 patterns. The soft hackle adds movement to the fly and all of these patterns have this feature. There are different length flies as well as a variety of colors. Half of the flies feature peacock hurl which has been incorporated into fly design for centuries.
Carey Special is a time proven British Columbia lake pattern. Soft Hackle Green has two different styles, a short and a long version. The Soft Hackle Flashback Prince Nymph is a still water take off on the famous Prince. The top has two strands of flash-a-bou to add sparkle to this fly. Brown Hackle Peacock pattern dates back many centuries and has stood the test of time. The Carey Buggers in olive and black are an adaptation of the Carey Special that adds a marabou head and tail to imitate dragon fly nymphs and other large insects.
There are times when the fish are on insects rather than minnows. Adding a nymph 8” to 24” behind a trolling fly offers the trout a choice. Another angler scenario suggests the trolling fly represents a fish that attempted to eat the nymph and overshot it thus proving that it was something worth eating. Fish are often competive feeders and the chance to take another’s meal is an incentive to bite.
