This fly was originally named “The Hot One” by Val Aubrey who tied the first ones at Eagle Lake in the 1990’s. Jay had a “wrong” orange marabou dye lot, which he gave to Val to do something with. This is what she came up with. On a day that was tough fishing for all anglers except Val using the “Hot One”. Jay asked for a couple and this color scheme found its place in Jay’s selection of fly colors. I took the liberty to rename the pattern to end the confusion between the Hot Orange and the Hot One. I renamed it Burnt Orange which is the wing and tail color.
