“The ORIGINAL JAY FAIR SPECIAL”.

In the 1980’s as Jay was developing his trolling flies, he was limited by the materials available at the time. This body style was known as the “ $8 Fly” due to the cost of tying. This color scheme was the original fly he called the Jay Fair Special. The pearl braid as an overlay on the red chenille, gave a red hue to the pearl body. As fish bit the fly the braid unraveled and the fly became even more effective. I am bringing this fly back with the rear end of the braid left untied to allow the braid to unravel the first time it is trolled. When Jay discovered his “Schuck” as a body material he standardized his trolling fly design with a Schuck body. This is the first of Jay’s older patterns I am bringing back.
